About South Florida Compliance Association
Founded in May of 1982, the South Florida Compliance Association (SFCA) was created as a result of regional banks’ tremendous need for a local forum in which they could collect compliance information from one another.
The main goal of the SFCA is to educate our members. Consumer protection, civil rights, and many other banking regulations are all covered during bi-monthly meetings. These conferences can range from half-day to full-day events, and are typically held at a Miami-Dade venue that is as conveniently-located for our members as possible. The speakers at these events are considered authorities at the local, regional, and national level.
Other benefits to being an SFCA member include access to our expansive directory of local compliance officers and regulatory references, a unique scholarship competition, networking opportunities, and invitations to our nationally-recognized compliance education schools and conferences.
Memberships can be pursued by bank holding companies, commercial banks, savings and loan associations, savings banks, credit unions, compliance consulting/audit firms, law firms, and all related affiliates and subsidiaries with home or branch offices in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, or Collier county. If your institution is eligible but is not located in these counties, your application requires specific board approval. Members of the SFCA Board of Directors are predominantly financial institutions.
Two national organizations have identified the need for compliance standards and the recognition of compliance function. These organizations have created a certification program in order to acknowledge compliance professionals. The Bank Administration Institute (BAI) has offered the Certified Risk Professional (CRP), while the American Bankers Association (ABA) currently sponsors the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM). Our members that attend SFCA meetings will qualify for credit that goes towards acquiring Continuing Education credit status
